Another year is here! And the days are passing already. The fear of many people right now is about the various surprises the year might bring their way. I know a lot of unexpected things will happen to people and nations this year, both good and bad. But God does not want us to believe or put our faith in the sudden or unexpected happenings. Rather, God wants us to put our faith in the expected. For surely there is an end; and thine EXPECTATION shall not be cut off. (Pro 23:18 KJV).
To live without expectation is to be a victim of sudden or unexpected happenings. No wonder the bible says, “But you, friends, are not in the darkness, and the Day should not take you by surprise like a thief.” (1Th 5:4 GNB). Your expectation this year will determine your destination by the year’s end. I challenge you to have a great and definite expectation for this year; even if you don’t have one right now. Create a mental picture of what you want to be by December; determine where you want to be. Don’t let the economy, the government or your society determine it for you.
Once you have done that, it’s now time to discover how to turn those expectations into their physical equivalent. Follow me as we unravel it together.
#1: Weigh your Expectations;
Before you conclude and settle down to pursue your expectation, it is important you weigh them to ensure they are in line with the will (word) of God. This is the fastest way to getting your desires accomplished. The bible says “Forever, O LORD, thy word (will) is settled in heaven.” (Psa 119:89 KJV). That means, whatever is in line with God’s word is a settled issue. It’s the surest way to gaining divine support. For example; if you desire healing, the will of God says “…If you will listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what he considers right, if you pay attention to his commands and obey all his laws, I will never make you suffer any of the diseases I made the Egyptians suffer, because I am the LORD, who heals you.” (Exo 15:26 GW); or if you are expecting financial breakthrough, His will says, “Remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you the power to become rich…” (Deu 8:18 GNB). God is under obligation to prosper your expectations when they line up with His will.
#2: Delight yourself in the Lord;
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psa 37:4 ISV).
When you delight or take pleasure in the Lord, He opens the door of divine help to you. This is the year to live your life for the Lord. You must be motivated by the singular purpose of seeing His kingdom come and His will done on earth. You must be willing to use your expected wealth for His purpose. God has no business keeping you in perfect health, if you will not use your strength for Him. You must be willing to serve God with your life and resources as you look up to Him for the fulfillment of your expectation.
#3: Words of Faith;
“… Abraham acted in faith when he stood in the presence of God, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that don’t yet exist.” (Rom 4:17 ISV).
This is the year to have “faith like God” calling into existence things that are yet to exist. Hear this; “God does not say things because they happen, things happened because God called them so”. Stop confessing your situation or that of your nation; rather, start calling them what you expected them to be. Confess wealth instead of poverty; strength instead of weakness; and health instead of sickness. Your expectation will come to pass when you speak this way. You can change the way you speak by making your heart abundant with the word of God through night and day meditation (Josh1:8).
Finally, as you look up to God for the fulfillment of all you want this year, don’t limit Him. The bible says “…The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luk 18:27 KJV). Never limit God to what your job or business can give to you. Believe Him for the things that will only happen by divine intervention. God is still in the business of granting all the expectations of the righteous. I welcome you to your BEST YEAR EVER.
