One of the major frictions on the wheels of progress is indecision. I have come to discover that indecision is a plaque that can ruin any venture if not dealt with. I have lists of opportunities that have been lost due to indecision. And I believe, it is not peculiar to an individual, but to many of us and which is causing regression in our pursuits.
Indecision simply means difficulty in making decision or wavering between two options. The bible says, “a double minded person is unstable in all his ways and cannot receive anything from God (James 1:7-8 paraphrased). Indecision is a product of shallow understanding. If you are convinced on what your favourite colour is, it won’t be difficult for you to decide on colour when buying clothes or cars. But if you don’t know what you want, everything you see will look like it and time will be wasted in making right decisions.
Every man or woman, who has not learnt to overcome indecision will be robbed of two major things: Time and Opportunity. If you joke with your time and opportunities, you will never be successful in life. I heard from God during one of my early morning devotions that “a single opportunity can single you out”. But from my discovery, I know that it takes a stable mind to recognize opportunities when they appear.
God said, “My people are destroyed because they lack knowledge”(Hosea 4:6). Your level of understanding will determine how much opportunity you can maximize. There are some phrases that must be erased from your vocabulary if you must succeed in your God given destiny. Such as; “am not sure” , “its under probability”, “if God wants me to do it” and such words of uncertainty.
The Bible says, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, … understanding what the will of the Lord is. Eph 5:15, 17. Many people have gone to hell, because they were not sure whether they should receive salvation. Many great ventures have folded up because the foreman placed some important decisions under probability. And many have died in their sickness because they thought, if it is God’s will, He will heal them.
To overcome indecision and experience a life of no-limits; there are three things you must start doing from now.
#1: Get sufficient knowledge about what you want to do – Seek for facts about all the options available to you. Engage the word of God and Holy Spirit for deeper insight into the future of all your options. “Thy word is a… light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105), “the Spirit searches all things …” (1Cor 2:10).
#2: Engage your mind in productive thinking based on the available facts – According to the Bible, the best way to start anything is to first think on the facts whether they are reliable. (Luke 14:28-32). While engaging your mind, prayer and thanksgiving will help to clear every obstacle to a clear thinking. Pray for direction and thank God for ordering your steps.
#3: Be faith-filled in making your decision – You must believe that you are choosing the right thing. Avoid anything that can bring doubt, don’t stay where your decision will be criticized. Choose books, church and people that believe in your conviction. That way, your faith will be strengthened.
You don’t need to sit on the fence anymore. Greatness awaits you as you overcome indecision today. The next opportunity will not pass you by. Continue winning for the kingdom of God. Shalom.
