Redeemed to reign on earth as kings and priests (Royal Priesthood)

Every redeemed child of God has a dual role to play. You are saved to function well. There is a dual anointing that comes upon every believer at salvation. That is anointing for kingship and priesthood.

Please understand that, you are not redeemed to be a slave again, but to reign.

1Pe 2:9 KJV says “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light

You are a priest and a king unto God. Not just a priest, but a royal priest.

Revelation 5:9-10 KJV says that “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

We are made unto God by Jesus Christ as kings and priests to reign on earth.

I like you to understand that Christ came to restore what Adam lost in the garden of Eden. And what did Adam lose? Adam lost his reign, his authority, his royalty and his priesthood which affected the entire human race.

But Jesus came to restore to us that which was lost by Adam.

Please understand that Jesus did not come majorly to take us to heaven, but to restore to us our kingship and priesthood for reigning on earth. Though we will go to heaven after we leave this earth, I believe God did not trap us here on earth for nothing, if not, He would have transported us to heaven the moment we received salvation. But God has a purpose, which is for you and I to reign here on earth.

How do we reign as kings and priests?

Jesus made a profound statement in Mathew which I will use to explain Revelations 5:10. He told us who we are and what we should be doing.

Mat 5:13-16 GW says “You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, how will it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people. (14) “You are light for the world. A city cannot be hidden when it is located on a hill. (15) No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. Instead, everyone who lights a lamp puts it on a lamp stand. Then its light shines on everyone in the house. (16) In the same way let your light shine in front of people. Then they will see the good that you do and praise your Father in heaven.

As a priest, we are the salt of the earth and as kings, we are the light of the world. Now what does that mean?

Firstly, as kings, we rule as light.

Light rules in the midst of darkness. We are the light of the world. God is the one that lights us and His intention is not to put us under but that we should shine on mountain top. But we have a responsibility to let our light shine in front of people.

Please understand that a king rules and rulers set pace. They show and lead the way. We as kings are pacesetters in this world. We are to show the world where to go. But what we see today is the reverse because we have failed to let our light shine.

Also, kings subdue domains. You are to subdue the earth. Wherever God has placed you, you are to subdue the place. Whether in business, politics, academic, art and so on, you are the light bearer.

You have a kingdom (where something is dominant) where to reign, it is your responsibility to discover it and shine your light there.

The world needs godly leaders in every facet of human endeavor. There are multitudes in the valley of decision (Joel 3:14) and until we rise to the occasion, the world will continue to grope in darkness and the church will continue to be affected.

Secondly, as priests, we preserve and savour (i.e. flavor and taste) the earth as salt.

Please understand that all born-again Christians are priests. A priest is someone who approaches God on behalf of others. A priest is an intercessor. Whenever you pray or stand in the gap for others you are fulfilling a priestly function.

As a priest , it is our responsibility  to intercede for our families, communities, nation and world. we must be people given to prayer. We must act as watchmen over our domains.

Also, we are reconciler between men and God. So, we must endeavor to preach the gospel at all times to all people in our space.  Wherever space you are occupying, there are people there who needs Jesus and it’s your responsibility to bring them to the knowledge of salvation.

Abraham was a valid example of someone in the old Testament who reign as king and a priest. As a king he rescued Lot from attackers in Genesis 14:1-16. And as a priest he interceded for Sodom in Genesis 18: 22-32

Christ has made us kings and priests. We should boldly enter into public service, entertainment, public office and the business arena and not be ashamed to reign.

Finally, If you have not given your life to Jesus, you are not permitted to reign.

Rom 5:17 KJV says “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”

I invite you to receive the abundant grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and become empowered to reign in this life and through to eternity.

God bless you
