We are living at a time when we must have good understanding of what we are doing and why we are doing it. You don’t want to live your life based on wrong reasons
If you don’t understand what you are doing as well as why you are doing it, your life will be miserable.
Please understand that God is a good God, and does not need your money to do anything for you. He gave us Jesus without charging us, and He will give us all other things freely with Him. (Rom 8:32).
So, if you are paying tithes or giving any form of offerings for the following reasons, it’s time to stop.
- If you are afraid of curses.
There are many people who believe they will be under a curse for failing to pay tithe, quoting Malachi 3.
But that is not true because Christ has redeemed us from every curse of the law. (Gal 3:13). So, you don’t need to pay tithe to escape curses
You also don’t need to pay tithes to have devourers rebuked for you.
Jesus said He has given you authority to tread upon every power of satan and none of it will harm you (Luke 10:19)
So, you are no longer subject to devourers. If you notice the operation of a devourer instead of wondering about tithe. All you need is to rebuke it by faith and in the name of Jesus and they will obey you.
- If you are doing it mainly to receive blessing
Please understand that every act of obedience attracts blessing from God, but we must not do our good deeds mainly because we want the blessing. It makes us lovers or servants of the blessing rather than God.
The blessings of God are not released because give. We give because we are receiving God’s blessing.
If your focus for paying tithes is to experience open heaven, am sorry to disappoint you. It’s not going to happen.
When Jesus rose from the dead, He gave every believer unhindered access to the Father.
He gave us the name of Jesus which has the power to open heaven anytime any day.
He said if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. (John 14:14)
So, you don’t need to pay tithe to be blessed.
Giving any form of offering should spring out of your love for God and His people, not out of your love for a monetary return.
- If it’s becoming a burden to you
No form of giving should be a burden on you.
God is not wicked He is not an extortionist. So, if giving becomes a burden, it’s time to stop it and go back to the Bible to receive renewed grace for giving.
God loves a cheerful giver, the one that delights in the giving. (2Cor 9:7)
Please understand that God is love and love is patient. So, He will allow you to grow up to the realization of why you should be giving.
Don’t force yourself to give, let it be a delight that spring out easily from you
- If you aren’t sure of your salvation
If you are paying tithe and you are not sure that you are saved, it’s time to stop.
God does not need your money more than He needs your soul.
What shall it profit you to gain the whole world and lose your soul? (Mark 8:36)
- If you are finding it difficult to love people.
There are many people who pay tithes but who does not show love to their fellow brethren.
Some don’t even love their pastors. They just give because they want to fulfill a law of blessing that is non-existent.
No matter what you give, if it’s not done in love, it’s a wasted effort (1Cor 13:3)
You must be a lover of God and His people to give effectively.
Lastly, if you’re going to give tithe or any form of giving, your nature and attitude must be right.
You must be a child of God and your mission must be to meet the needs of people especially believers and to initiate abundant praise and thanks to God according to 2Cor 9:12
I pray that the Lord will give you understanding.
