How Choices are made

There is a road that seems right for a man to travel, but in the end it’s the road to death. (Proverbs 16:25 ISV emphasis mine)

Choices are made by men as it seems right to them. Whatever seems right to you is a function of your level of understanding. This is where maturity plays out. A little child will choose an attractive food over a golden ring. To the child, his level of understanding says, food is better than gold; whereas an adult will choose the gold a million times over the food because he knows the gold can produce multiple servings of such attractive food.

Brothers, stop being childish in your thinking. Be like infants with respect to evil, but think like adults. (1 Corinthians 14:20 ISV)

But solid food is for mature people, whose minds are trained by practice to distinguish good from evil. (Hebrews 5:14 ISV)

It takes a matured mind to make adult decision. A lot of grown-ups are immature in the area of finances. They make childish choices and end up poor at the end of their lives. To make right choices, you must have developed a matured reasoning in every area of your life. How you view issues will affect your choices in life.

I want you to understand that maturity is not a function of age. Maturity is a function of relevant knowledge backed up with adequate understanding. If you are constantly making wrong choices, you need to go for knowledge and understanding to be delivered and set free from it.

In my years of witnessing Christ, one thing I have discovered is that people will come to Jesus when it seems right to them. Many reject the offer of salvation because, it doesn’t seem right to them and they’d rather remain in their sins. That is why methods are important in evangelism. Some methods will never work on certain individuals, but may be suitable for another group. The one who knows the right method is the Holy Spirit and we must rely on Him at all times.

If you are going to constantly make right choices in life, you must change the way you view things. Changing your perspectives is possible through a constant renewal of mind. You can begin to see things God’s way and make God’s kind of choices if you will start meditating on His word.
