Its easy for a man to love those who love him because human love has the capacity to flow more to those who love him. Human love does not have the capacity to make a man love his enemies. But Jesus said in Mathew 5:46 “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?

Any man can love a man that loves him, even a sinner can do that. However, the love that will take us to heaven will have to go beyond this kind of love. Matt 5:20. Brethren, it is important in this end time, when human love is failing to embrace the unmerited love of God. Though we do not merit or deserve God’s love, He still loves us and this love is unconditional. This is made clear in Romans 5:6,8: “for when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. But God commendeth His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.

What a wonderful scripture, we were walking against God and yet God loves us. God’s love is different from other kinds of love any man could profess to have. The irony of God’s love is that God sees what man cannot see. In Africa, there is a lot of hypocrisy. A man can hate you, yet he is greeting you always. He could even bow to you and smile but in his heart, he has evil against you. But there is God who sees beyond what we can physically see. He knows the thought of man.

Some people curse God daily and deliberately disobey Him and resist Him. He sees the wickedness and rottenness within and outside man, yet He still loves man. That is the love that man does not merit yet he receives from God. The Bible says, Christ died for us when we are unable to help ourselves, slaves to sin and living in wickedness.

Let us imagine the havoc a seventy year old man who does not know and fear God would have committed in his lifetime. Now imagine from Adam till now, the kind of wickedness and abominations being committed on earth, yet God’s love towards man has not changed or diminished. We can’t compare human love with God’s love. The only thing that can help our society, nation, families and churches is God’s love. 1John 5:19.

1John 4:10-11 says “Herein is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us, and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. He so loved us that He sent His only Son to save us from our sins. Can you love those who hate and plan evil against you with passion? This is where God’s love is different and is the only love that can make us be like Jesus.

God is calling the church back, can we embrace His love? Can we extend this love to people unconditionally irrespective of their faith, tribe and denomination? Do you know that even in the church today, there are people in the same fellowship who will love only people from their tribe? This is certainly human and not God’s love. When some people sing “I love you with the love of the Lord…”, they will be looking for only the people that choose to love. Human love is partial, discriminatory and conditional. It is possible for a wicked man to be kind to people he loves especially those who meet his condition.

If God could love us unconditionally, brethren, we are indebted and must love our neighbors unconditionally too. We can see human love demonstrated in marriages, where the husband will get annoyed with the wife because she is not doing what he likes and vice versa. But the love of God has nothing to do with what a person did or did not do. It is not a conditional love. Can you have this kind of love for your neighbor and for one another?

It is common these days for people to narrow their love to people of same tribe. One tribe is loved and honoured and another tribe is hated and dishonoured. God’s love is different; He loves the hypocrites, homosexuals, idol worshipers, bastards but He hates sin. The message of Jesus Christ is the message of love and reconciliation. God wants to reconcile the whole world back to Himself. He loves us with passion and it is never His will that any person should perish.

No matter what we do, if  we are not walking in love, we have missed it all. The Bible tells us the story of the church in Ephesus in Revelations 2:1-5; they were perfect in so many things but they lacked one vital thing, love. Jesus warned them to return to their first love otherwise He would remove His candle stick (presence) from their midst. God can not dwell where there is no love because wherever there is God, there must be love and vice versa. God cannot dwell in a community full of hatred because heaven is full of love. The easiest way for the devil to ensure that God’s presence is removed from a place is to cause hatred, enmity, bitterness and revengeful spirit to operate there. May God restore His love back into the church and nations to the glory of His name.
