Are you battling sickness, feeling oppressed, or longing for divine intervention in your life? No matter how long you’ve been waiting, one encounter with Jesus, the Healer, can transform your story completely.
Jesus: The Ultimate Healer
In John 5:1-9, we see a powerful narrative of healing at the pool of Bethesda. The Bible recounts that a great multitude of sick people—blind, lame, and paralyzed—gathered at this pool, waiting for the waters to be stirred by an angel. The first person to step in after the stirring would be healed. Among this multitude was a man who had been suffering for 38 years, waiting and hoping for his chance.
Yet, when Jesus appeared, everything changed. Without competition or delay, Jesus told the man, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk.” Immediately, the man was healed. This account reminds us that healing does not depend on circumstances, people, or limited opportunities; it comes from Jesus Christ, who is ever-present and all-powerful.
The Problem of Waiting
Just as the man at Bethesda waited, many today are in seasons of waiting—waiting for medical solutions, financial aid, or the intervention of others. The sick man’s response to Jesus was, “I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred.”
Do you feel the same? Perhaps you’re waiting for the right conditions, resources, or opportunities to find healing or breakthrough. But Jesus shows us that we don’t need intermediaries or perfect circumstances to experience God’s healing power. Jesus Himself is our Advantage.
How to Encounter the Healer
- Acknowledge Jesus as the Healer
Healing begins with recognizing Jesus as the source of all restoration. In Exodus 15:26, God declares, “I am the Lord who heals you.” No doctor, pastor, or system can replace the healing power of Jesus. If you haven’t yet surrendered your life to Him, this is the first step. Accept Him as your Savior and Healer. - Believe in His Power
Faith is a vital component of receiving healing. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that “without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Every person who received healing during Jesus’ earthly ministry did so through faith. Jesus often said, “Your faith has made you whole.” Believe in what Jesus accomplished on the cross. As Isaiah 53:5 states, “By His stripes, we are healed.” - Call Upon His Name
Romans 10:13 assures us that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Call upon Jesus in prayer, not with doubt but with expectant faith. Speak His Word over your life, for His Word carries the power to heal and deliver. Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.”
Shifting Your Focus
The man at the pool of Bethesda focused on what he lacked—a helper to put him in the water. Likewise, many focus on their limitations, the severity of their condition, or the insufficiency of their resources. However, healing comes when we shift our focus from earthly solutions to Jesus, who is always present and capable.
No matter what the doctors’ reports say, no matter how long the sickness has lingered, Jesus is your Healer. The Bible reminds us in Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
