Without mercy, everyone of us will be facing the wrath of God. The entire human race is a product of mercy (the reason why you were not created an animal). But God’s mercy is often obtained by those who see His ways as their destiny (Prov 28:13, Deut 5:10).
Mercy guarantees the delivery of kingdom benefits without taking into account your past errors (Hosea 10:12). It is true that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, yet, all our sins are forgiven in mercy and we are made partakers of His glory.
The kingdom of God is established in mercy because no one enters this kingdom on any form of merit.
Understanding what mercy is and what it will deliver to you is the key to abundant living. The Bible says “ What is man that you are mindful of Him (Heb 2:6), the answer to this question is that man is a product of mercy.
Nothing makes a man acceptable before God other than mercy. Even if you are the most holy of all men, your access to God cannot be guaranteed outside mercy.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5
What is mercy?
Mercy according to concise English Dictionary means compassion or forgiveness shown towards an enemy or person in one’s power.
It is important to note that we were once enemies of God but through divine mercy, we have been made acceptable in the beloved. Mercy is the platform for divine acceptance. Without mercy, God will be inaccessible to man.
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6
None can properly be said to trust in the mercy of God unless they have committed crimes, and are conscious of this fact. Justice protects the innocent, and they may safely appeal to it for defence or redress. But for the guilty nothing remains but to trust in mercy. Trusting in mercy always implies a deep, heartfelt conviction of personal guilt.
Mercy is divine partiality (Rom 9:22)
God is not partial nor does He discriminate, but when it comes to the subject of mercy, partiality is always shown to those who are candidates of divine mercy. (salvation is the only criteria for this). God can be jealous and partial when it comes to His children. That is reason why I pity those who are yet to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
You see very clearly why all are not saved. It is not because God is not willing to save all, but because they defeat the efforts God makes to save them. They betake themselves to every possible refuge and subterfuge; resist conviction of guilt, and repel every call of mercy.
Mercy is the only factor that qualifies a man for the glory of God. Rom 9:23. Being born again is an indication that you have obtained mercy in the sight of God. But to be noted is the fact that new birth does not impose on you the benefits of divine mercy. Understanding and activation are the keywords.
But before we come to activating mercy, Now lets examine briefly the product of divine mercy.
- Divine Acceptability: Mercy is the only platform that man can be acceptable before God. Ephe 1:6, Matt 12:7
- Divine Guidance: God does not lead us by mere demand, by He leads us out of His mercy. Mercy guarantees you vision. Gen 24:27
- Your Dignity is Secured: Whatever you may become in life is only made possible and established through the mercy of the Lord. Prov 20:28
- It guarantees your blessings: You can never be sure of God’s blessing until you are sure of His mercy. Isa 14:1
These are few out of the numerous product of divine mercy. Many trust professedly in the mercy of God without fulfilling the conditions on which only, mercy can be shown. They may hold on in such trusting till they die–but no longer. If mercy is so indispensable, how then do we obtain mercy from God?
- Love for God
Love for God magnets mercy from God. You cant love God sincerely and not attract His mercy. Some forms of misplacement in priority often seen today, happen with people who are enemies of God (unsaved) and yet expecting mercy from God. The truth is – you cant be working against God and His kingdom and expect mercy to locate you. Exo 20:6
- Keeping His Covenants and Testimonies. Psalm 25:10, Matt 5:7
If you are a covenant breaker, you cant enjoy mercy. You can’t break the covenant of tithing and expect God’s mercy to reach you in your finances. No matter how you pray, if your confession is negative, God’s mercy will be far beyond your reach. Mercy answers only to covenant practitioners not covenant breakers.
- The Fear of the Lord. Psalm 103:11
You can secure God’s mercy for ever if you fear the Lord. Joseph feared the Lord and secure His mercy for ever. The Bible says “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil” Prov 8:13. You cant love evil or its corresponding act and expect to receive mercy of the Lord. Those who fear God will naturally attract mercy.
- Consistent prayer. Psalm 123:2, Luke 17:13
A closed mouth is often said to be a closed destiny, you can contact divine mercy by engaging the force of prayer. Remember the blind man who cried out for mercy and Jesus heard him. You too can be heard if you cry out.
Every blessing or benefit that salvation holds must pass through the screening of mercy before it can be delivered. In the kingdom of God, there are procedures that must be followed and mercy is a criteria for receiving from God.
It is time we begin to ask God to show His mercy towards us.
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. Psalm 102:13 This is your season for favour, God’s mercy is locating you in Jesus name. Amen.
