Marriage is God’s will and plan. He instituted it for companionship, complementation, and the procreation of godly offspring. Every marriage, regardless of its current state, can become blissful by seeking God’s help. God wants to assist in making your marriage a heaven on earth, but only if you ask for His help.

The Key to Building a Successful Marriage:

To build a successful marriage, the key lies in seeking divine help. The foundation of many marriage failures is often the absence of divine help. Alongside divine help, human responsibility also plays a crucial role. Buildings are not accidents, just as a successful marriage is not an accident. It is the investment of man with the help of God.

The Bible gives us a clear picture of this teamwork. Just as every house has someone who plans and builds it, God is like the ultimate planner and builder of everything, including marriages. In the book of Hebrews (3:4 TPT), it says, “Every house is built by someone, but God is the Designer and Builder of all things.” This reminds us that our partnership with God is key. It’s not just about God doing everything magically, but about us working together with His wisdom. So, just as a strong house needs both a good plan and skilled workers, a strong marriage comes from a mix of our efforts and God’s guidance working hand in hand.

The Consequences of Relying on Human Efforts

Marriages built solely on human efforts often end in turmoil. This reality is reflected in today’s alarming divorce rates. The Scriptures reinforce this truth:

“Except the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.” (Psalm 127:1 KJV).

In another version, it reads:

“Wise people are builders—they build families, businesses, communities. And through intelligence and insight, their enterprises are established and endure. Because of their skilled leadership, the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom and the pleasures of spiritual wealth.” (Proverbs 24:3-4 TPT).

Embracing Divine Help for a Fulfilling Marriage

Recognizing that God’s involvement is pivotal, every attempt to establish a marriage without divine help is bound to fail. Marriage is a divine concept, and God holds the secret to its successful construction. This divine assistance is accessible through:

  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge
  • Understanding

The Role of Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding

God’s help in marriage is made available through wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Most people are praying for divine intervention in their marriage without knowing how it will happen. The wisdom of God is the recipe for a successful and blissful marriage. The greatest tool the enemy uses against marriage is ignorance (Hosea 4:6).

Practical Steps Toward Saving and Building a Strong Marriage

To save your marriage, you need to seek wisdom, knowledge, and understanding through the study of the word of God and prayer. The Bible says:

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7 KJV).

Wisdom is from God; you can’t get it from any place outside the word of the Lord. The Bible says:

“Wisdom is a gift from a generous God, and every word he speaks is full of revelation and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.” (Proverbs 2:6 TPT).

If your marriage is facing a crisis, the first thing to do is seek knowledge. Seek knowledge from God’s word, read books by anointed authors on marriage, and attend marriage seminars hosted by anointed ministers with proven records. As you seek knowledge, you need the Holy Spirit to give you understanding. You need insight; sometimes you may have the knowledge but not know how it applies to your situation. Understanding helps you identify your inadequacies. It is similar to your eyes being opened to see what is going wrong.

And thereafter, you need wisdom to apply the knowledge correctly. This is also made possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. If you are a man with an unruly wife, the Holy Spirit will help you love your wife and bring her into submission to God’s will and yours. As a woman battling an unloving husband, the Holy Spirit will help you submit to him and use your submission wisely to bring him to love the Lord and you.

You need to be a person given to prayer and the word of God to access the wisdom of God for your marriage. God is a liberal giver, and if you ask Him for wisdom for your marriage, He will give it to you:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and does not reproach, and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5 KJV).

Acting Upon Divine Guidance

Whatever God tells you to do should be done if you want to see results. As you seek knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, you must be ready to do according to all that the Holy Spirit will want you to do. Without action, no result will be produced. The first miracle that Jesus performed happened at a wedding, and it was made possible because the servants listened to what Mary, the mother of Jesus, told them:

“Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:5 MKJV).

This is also my word to you that as you pray for divine intervention in your marriage, do whatever He says to you because there lies His wisdom and your Miracle!
